Policies for THE DESERT 2027

Terms of agreement: in-person classes

Because instructors need time to gather materials for kits and plan their classes, THE DESERT 2027 has the deadlines below. All dates are in Phoenix, Arizona time.

For questions about changing or canceling classes, or to make a request, please contact erin@vivimagoo.com.

Changing classes

  • Class change deadline: Monday, November 23, 2026.
  • Changes made more than 12 weeks before the event begins (before Monday, November 9, 2026) do not incur a processing fee.
  • Changes made from November 9 through the class change deadline incur a per-class processing fee.
  • Class changes are not available after Monday, November 23, 2026.

Canceling classes

  • Cancellation deadline: Monday, December 21, 2026, six weeks before the event begins.
  • Cancellations made on or before the cancellation deadline incur a per-class processing fee.
  • No cancellations and no refunds will be honored within six weeks of the start of the event, after Monday, December 21, 2026.

All returned checks will result in the cancellation of the student's classes and incur a $50 processing fee.

Vivi Magoo Presents reserves the right to cancel classes that do not meet minimum student registration on or before 2 weeks prior to the start of the event. If this occurs, students will be notified and given the opportunity to switch to a different class or receive a refund for the canceled class. In the very rare event of an emergency or unavoidable natural disaster or act of God, a class may be canceled. In this situation, all fees will be reimbursed.

Questions people ask

Who are the retreats for?

Anyone who wants to make things by hand. Most classes welcome advanced beginners and up, and each class page lists its skill level and what you should already be comfortable with.

Do I sign up for the whole week or for single classes?

You build your own schedule. Choose one class or fill every day. Each class is a separate seat with its own fee, and you can add several to one order.

When does registration open?

Each event has its own dates. Returning students get an early window before general registration opens. The event page shows the dates in the event's local time.

How do I know if I count as a returning student?

Sign in with the email you used for a past retreat. If you are on the returning-student list for an event, the class pages will show your early registration date.

What is a kit fee?

Some instructors supply materials and tools for the class. That kit fee is listed separately from the class fee, and the class page says how and when to pay it. Kit fees can change if metal prices change.

What do I need to bring?

Every class page has a supply list, an optional list, and a note on what the instructor provides. Bring safety glasses and closed-toe shoes to any class that uses a torch or saw. Most students are also glad they packed:

  • A rechargeable or battery-operated work light
  • Particulate dust masks
  • Noise protection, such as earplugs or earmuffs
  • Magnification, such as an Optivisor or reading glasses
What happens if a class is full?

Join the waitlist from the class page. Sign in or create a free account first so we know where to reach you. Seats are offered in the order people joined. When a seat is offered to you, we email you, and you have a set time to claim it before it moves to the next person. You can see your waitlists under My account.

Can I cancel or switch classes?

Yes, within the event's deadlines. You can switch into another class before the class change deadline, or cancel for credit or a refund before the cancellation deadline, depending on the policy for that event. The event's FAQ and policies page has the dates.

Is lodging included?

No. Lodging is booked separately with the venue. The hotel and travel page for each event lists the room block and how to book.

What if two classes I want are at the same time?

You can only be in one studio at a time. If a class overlaps one already in your schedule or one you are enrolled in, we tell you right away, and checkout waits until you remove one. Back-to-back classes are fine.

How will I know my registration went through?

We email an order confirmation as soon as payment is complete, whether or not you subscribe to our newsletter. Your classes also appear under My account. If the email does not arrive, check your spam folder, then write to Erin.
