In this class students will learn multiple techniques to make a prong setting for a cabochon in sterling silver with 22k gold prongs.
Once the setting is fabricated I’ll teach how to solder that setting to a ring without compromising any of the many preexisting solder seams.
This will all be done without yellow ochre or whiteout to protect the seams.
Once all the elements are soldered together I’ll show how to shape talon style prongs and set the stone securely.
The ring will then be oxidized with liver of sulfur to give contrast to to the gold and silver.
Along the way many other tips and tricks will be shown that will apply to all sorts of situations, not just this ring.

12 gauge sterling silver 3 inches long and 1/8 inch wide
12 gauge sheet larger than cabochon on all sides by at least 1/8 of an inch
18 gauge 18k round wire for prongs
Hard silver solder
