Time: 9:00 am until 4:00 pm
Level: Intermediate (no beginners, please!).
Previous soldering experience is recommended, and it would serve you well to have experience using a Smith Little Torch.
If students are not familiar with pick soldering, Nicole recommends you practice ahead of time (not a requirement).
Class Fee: $1125 for full five days of instruction
Kit Fee: $85 (payable at class time)
In order to keep the kit fee low, Nicole is asking you to bring the following silver sheet and wire that you may have on hand in your own studio. The list is Nicole’s recommendation but do consider bringing more if you work fast or if you think you may wish to go in your own creative direction.
1 3×3″ sheet of 22-gauge sterling silver (dead soft)
1 3×3″ sheet of 24-gauge sterling silver (dead soft)
1 5 ft 16-gauge sterling silver wire (half-hard)
1 5 ft wire of 18-gauge sterling silver (half hard)
1 3 ft wire of 20-gauge sterling silver (half hard)
Silver solder – easy, medium and hard
Vivi Magoo will have the following for use in class
soldering stations – torches, fuel, flux, platforms
quench bowls
flex shafts
bits, burs
chasing and repousse tools
double third hands
pickle pots and neutralizer
patina – LOS and neutralizer
Dawn, paper towels, dishpans for water
table protection
Tracing paper
Liquid cement
You are encouraged to bring scrap sterling silver with you.
work light (optional)
Safety glasses/Magnifiers (Optivisor)
Jewelers saw and blades (#2/0-4/0)
wax for saw blades
soldering pick
copper tongs – for pickle and LOS
files – any variety and just a couple will do
bench Block – small one with some sort of sound-dampening underneath
bench Pin and 3” or 4” C-Clamp to secure bench pin
pliers-flat nose, chain nose, round nose, half-round/flat forming pliers
rawhide mallet
chasing hammer
flush cutters
metal shears to cut your sheet metal
small jars/plastic bags for scraps
tweezers
sharpies and pencils
note Pad
scissors
ruler/tape measure
sandpaper – any grit you like working with
Just in case you work fast or decide to go a different direction!
Extra sterling sheet and wire
If you have special needs (i.e. GRS adjustability), you will need to bring it.

Note:
If you need to purchase anything for class (including metals, tools, expendables, etc.), we have a local supplier, SJ Jewelry Supply, who you can order through and have it all ready-and-waiting upon your arrival. Mario and Vivi Magoo will work together to make sure your order is at the studio in Mesa when you arrive. It’s a nice service Mario and his crew provide for us – both in Tucson during The Desert retreats as well as at our other retreats around the country.

- Include the items you wish to purchase in the email to Mario.
- Go ahead and cc me on the email so I can keep track of what you’re ordering (Barb@ViviMagoo.com)
- Make sure to tell them this is for Vivi Magoo Metals Week beginning September 22nd.
- Email your order to Mario at info@sjjewelrysupply.com
- When they receive your email, they will send you a return email acknowledging receipt of your request
- In this email, they will instruct you about payment methods
- Once your order is filled, they will send you a second email with confirmation stating your order is complete
- Included in this email, they will let you know how, when and where they will deliver your item to you when you arrive in Phoenix

Please note that I do not give students specific projects to complete. I offer many different demonstrations throughout the day, so you’re welcome to copy my demonstrations or take the techniques to incorporate into your own designs. I encourage you to explore your own artistic expression.
